Porto Lagos

A SMALL GRAPHIC VILLAGE

Porto Lagos is a small picturesque village located in a place that uniquely combines the green of the forest and the blue of the Greek sea between the prefectures of Xanthi and Rodopi. It is, at the same time, seaside and lakeside as Lake Vistonida is next to it and its beaches are bordered by the Thracian Sea.
Between lagoons, meadows, forests and Lake Vistonida, the biotope hosts a rich birdlife. The spectacle of hundreds of birds around the picturesque church of Aghios Nikolaos in the middle of Porto Lagos lagoon is unique.

Kavala

The city of Kavala was built in the 7th century BC by Thassian colonists. It is one of the most beautiful cities of Macedonia, combining the urban character with the blue of the coasts, the imposing Mount Pangaion with the wet element of Nestos River. Initially its first name, was «Neapolis», it became an ally of Pericles' Athens and a seaport of Philippi, the most important center during the Macedonian era.

Delta of the river Nestos

The Nestos Delta extends between Nea Karvali and Avdira. Its environment creates an ideal shelter for wild animals and birds, while it is one of the most important wetland in Greece and Europe. Its lagoons favor fish breeding, which is a significant source of income for the local residents of the area.
